Today I’m starting a series of monthly posts called Inspiration Charge. This series with that not-so-unfamiliar-charged-name
will cover inspiration on web design and development: typography, logos, illustration, code, reviews and comparisons, paradigm shifts, trends… you got the idea. I will keep this lists loyal to a clear vision: to help you self-educate and construct your own opinion on design and development. Basically, they will help you open your mind and vision.
One thing you will notice is the linked posts aren’t necessarily from Feb 2008. That’s because every list will have a theme to follow and is really hard to find recent posts covering the same topic. This initial month will cover Typography.
- Jon Tangerine - the incredible em and elastic layouts.
- Barney Carroll - Garamond v Garamong - Physiology of a typeface.
- I Love Typography - Arial vs Helvetica.
- 24 ways - Typesetting tables
- Typophile - Typophile’s List of “Essential” Typefaces.
- Mark Boulton - Five simple steps to better typography
- 24 ways - which fonts are installed with Mac and Windows operating systems by default?
Update 28th Feb.: I found more interesting links around the web, plus, an incredible book by Robert Bringhurst I bought and I’m actually reading. Here they are:
- I Love Typography - A Guide to Web Typography
- The Elements of Typographic Style Applied to the Web - Richard Butter
- The Elements of Typographic Style - Robert Bringhurst, book at Amazon
- Cascading Style Sheets Level 3: Module - Fonts - W3C Specification
- AisleOne

That’s amazing! I look forward to this series.
I have recently watched a documentary called “Helvetica” and I recommend it to everyone - not just designers!
